Imprisoned under Maintenance of Internal Security Act (M.I.S.A.)in 1976 for about one year; arrested and imprisoned more than 15 times for participating in the agitations, picketings and demonstrations for public causes; Participated in a number of international Conferences/Seminars, was instrumental in organising the 8th Conference of Parties (CoP) to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change in New Delhi, 23 October - 1 November 2002; elected as President, Conference of Parties, 23 October - 1 November 2003; the Conference culminated in adoption of Delhi Declaration on climate change; campaigned for the ratification of Kyoto Protocol
